Tudo se Transforma - Circular Design in Action

At Mercado do Bolhão, the installation “Tudo se Transforma” celebrates the power of circular design and collective creativity.

Developed through a collaborative workshop promoted by our architecture studio, Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) and Antiga Casa Pompeu, the project brought together students, professionals, and creatives to explore how industrial waste can become raw material for new ideas.

Made from discarded textile cones and paper bales, the installation reimagines waste as a source of beauty, innovation, and reflection. It stands as a temporary piece of architecture - a symbol of transformation, sustainability, and dialogue between art, industry, and education.

The workshop invited architects and architecture students to reflect on waste, the life cycle of materials and urban sustainability, transforming waste into creative architectural solutions. The initiative combined the design phase of the project with practical construction at Bolhão Market, providing an immersive experience of design, innovation and collaboration.

In addition to stimulating creativity and architectural practice, the workshop played a crucial role in raising public awareness of the issue of waste, showing how discarded materials can be reused and transformed into elements of art and architecture, contributing to a more sustainable and conscious city.

The installation is currently on display at Mercado do Bolhão, Porto, throughout October 2025.
