ReThink Lisbon: Climate & Regeneration Proposal 2030
Workshop at Archi Summit 2025

On July 9th, hori-zonte, in collaboration with Archi Summit 2025, will host the workshop “ReThink Lisboa: Climate & Regeneration Proposal 2030” at the Hub Criativo do Beato, in Lisbon.

The session will bring together a working group of 12 experts from various fields — architecture, urbanism, landscape design, environmental science, public health, and engineering — to develop concrete proposals for mitigating the effects of global warming in Lisbon. The city is particularly vulnerable to urban heat islands, where dense built areas retain and amplify heat, creating significant temperature disparities that impact urban life and public health.

The workshop will be mediated and reported by Ana Neiva, Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto.

Among the confirmed participants are Adrian Krężlik, architect and researcher at Dosta Tec (Energy and Buildings for Future Climate); Catarina Viana, landscape architect at Topiaris; Daniel Casas Valle, urbanist and researcher behind The Future Design of Streets; Filipe Duarte Santos, a leading expert in global change and climate sustainability; Inês Lobo, architect at Inês Lobo Arquitetos; Manuel Aires Mateus, architect at Aires Mateus Arquitetos; Paulo Palha, landscape architect at Neoturf and representative of the European Federation of Green Roof and Green Wall Associations (EFB); Teresa Leão, Assistant Professor at FMUP / ISPUP and public health specialist; Vasco Appleton, engineer at A2P Engenharia; and Vanessa Tavares, Head of Sustainability at BUILT CoLAB.

Over the course of the morning, the group will identify key environmental challenges and define a set of practical and multidisciplinary strategies to support a more sustainable, resilient and livable Lisbon.

The outcomes of the session will be compiled into a reference document, to be shared publicly and with institutional partners. The final proposals will be presented on July 11th at 14:30, during a public session at Archi Summit 2025.
