The proposal for the public space requalification lies on the rehabilitation of the site’s social and urban environment. The main goal is to value the existing characteristics by protecting nature - its flora, fauna, the water cycle and it's natural course - and the enrichment of the pedestrian paths, seeking to maximize the use and functionality of the public spaces.
The strategy is based on a multifunctional and diversified plan, that intends to bring together in its physical ground, a varied set of vocational, material and immaterial features. This aim to embody the current and new residents, recognizing their different generations, backgrounds and cultures.
The main concept is centered around three fundamental development assumptions:Structure, Character and Social Catalysts.
The first is focused on building up the current roads’ network, by carefully layering the different importance and size of each one of them.
Character is associated with the needs of the surrounding neighborhoods that merge together in a central element: the water stream.
Lastly, the social aspect plays a big role to strengthen the community link, bringing different programs and activities to the site: sports, urban farming, plazas and playgrounds will fetch a new symbolism to this part of the city.
